About the Role
About the Role
The Lead Embedded Rust Engineer will design and develop safety-critical embedded software for automotive real-time systems. This role requires strong expertise in Rust and embedded systems, along with leadership experience in software architecture and development.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop safety-critical embedded software using Rust.
- Lead software architecture and development of low-level platform software, middleware, device drivers, and system services.
- Build deterministic, high-performance real-time applications.
- Optimize memory footprint, startup time, CPU utilization, and execution performance.
- Implement software aligned with ISO 26262 and applicable ASIL requirements.
- Support safety analysis activities, including FMEA, FMEDA, FTA, and DFA.
- Develop interrupt-safe, multithreaded, and lock-free components; analyze worst-case execution time (WCET).
- Integrate Rust components with C/C++, AUTOSAR, Linux, QNX, and RTOS platforms.
- Implement secure coding practices, secure boot, and memory-safe software architectures.
- Lead code reviews, debugging, testing, and continuous integration activities.
Mandatory Technical Skills
- Expert-level Rust programming, including ownership, borrowing, lifetimes, traits, generics, and async programming.
- Experience with unsafe Rust review, FFI integration between Rust and C/C++, and no_std development.
- Strong knowledge of embedded Rust and Cargo workspace management.
- Embedded systems experience with bare-metal development, MCU/MPU architectures, ARM Cortex-M/R/A, device drivers, DMA, interrupts, and watchdogs.
- Experience with real-time operating systems such as FreeRTOS, Zephyr, SafeRTOS, AUTOSAR OS, QNX, or RT Linux.
- Knowledge of communication protocols, including SPI, I2C, UART, CAN/CAN-FD, Ethernet, SOME/IP, DDS, BLE, UWB, and TCP/IP.
- Strong understanding of ISO 26262, ASIL-B/C/D, MISRA, and ASPICE.
- Familiarity with static analysis, formal verification concepts, and safety case development.
- Experience with Git/Gerrit, Jenkins/GitHub Actions, CMake/Bazel, QEMU, Lauterbach, Vector CANoe, or SonarQube.
Required Experience
- 8+ years of embedded software development experience.
- 3+ years of software architecture or technical leadership experience.
- Experience delivering safety-certified products.
- Strong C/C++ background, ideally combined with hands-on Rust development.
- Experience developing ASIL-compliant systems and working with real-time constraints.
- Ability to review and justify unsafe Rust usage and troubleshoot complex system-level issues.
Preferred Qualifications
- Automotive experience with Classic AUTOSAR, secure ECU communication, vehicle networking, and Software-Defined Vehicles (SDV).
- Knowledge of hardware security modules (HSM), hypervisors, mixed-criticality systems, and multicore safety architectures.
- Experience with Trusted Execution Environments (TEE), cryptography, formal methods, or safety-qualified Rust toolchains.
- Experience developing software for vehicle ECUs, controllers, gateways, cockpit platforms, or safety domains.
Education
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Embedded Systems, or a related discipline.
