About the Role
About the role
We build software and AI products across workplace applications, meeting intelligence, search, and human-agent collaboration.
We are hiring a hands-on Lead Software Engineer who can investigate unfamiliar problems, make architectural decisions, and guide delivery. We value engineers who understand the business objective, challenge assumptions, test possible approaches, and take ownership through production.
A current area of work is our workplace platform combining time tracking, encrypted messaging, and audio/video calls across Windows, macOS, and Linux, supported by a multi-tenant backend and cloud infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Translate product requirements into technical designs and lead implementation through release and production follow-up.
- Make architectural decisions across applications and their interfaces with backend services, identity, and communication infrastructure.
- Solve problems involving offline synchronisation, real-time communication, cross-platform reliability, data integrity, and performance.
- Diagnose production failures across system boundaries, including third-party code, and verify root causes with evidence.
- Improve testing, release processes, observability, and engineering documentation.
- Review code, mentor engineers, and lead design reviews for sensitive changes.
- Use AI coding agents effectively while taking responsibility for engineering decisions and the software that ships.
Qualifications
- Strong hands-on production experience with both Rust and Python.
- Strong async Rust skills using Tokio, including ownership, concurrency, shared state, and error handling.
- Experience building async Python backend services with FastAPI or a comparable framework. SQLAlchemy experience is preferred.
- Experience shipping and supporting desktop applications on at least two of Windows, macOS, and Linux, with willingness to own all three.
- Strong PostgreSQL skills in schema design, query optimisation, transactions, and migrations.
- Experience designing APIs, authentication, and service integrations.
- Experience with background processing using Celery and Redis, or equivalent tools.
- Experience operating production services and managing releases. AWS and Kubernetes experience is preferred.
- Ability to work across application interfaces and backend services. React and TypeScript knowledge is preferred.
- Demonstrated architectural ownership, evidence-based debugging, clear communication, and experience guiding other engineers.
- Practical experience with AI coding assistants and critical review of generated code.
Application
Apply with your CV and a brief example of a difficult engineering problem you personally owned. Explain your contribution, the approaches you considered, and how you verified the result. Anonymised examples are welcome.
