About the Role
The Contract Senior Software Engineer will focus on advancing WebGPU support across Linux and Android by addressing critical correctness, validation, and security issues. This role involves hands-on Rust development, deep debugging, and testing within a large systems and graphics codebase, contributing to both the open-source wgpu project and Gecko.
What You'll Do
- Fix prioritized correctness, validation, security, and fuzzing issues affecting the WebGPU implementation.
- Diagnose and resolve application blockers involving real-world WebGPU applications.
- Investigate and address WebGPU Conformance Test Suite failures.
- Develop robust fixes in Rust and validate changes against relevant edge cases.
- Contribute changes upstream to the wgpu open-source project.
- Participate in code reviews with wgpu maintainers and Gecko module owners.
- Coordinate with the WebGPU engineering team to select and prioritize issues.
- Apply strong debugging and security practices when investigating bugs and vulnerabilities.
- Deliver reviewed fixes that measurably reduce issues and support WebGPU availability.
Who You Are
- Strong professional experience with Rust and low-level systems code.
- Experience contributing to or maintaining a large systems or graphics codebase.
- Ability to diagnose complex technical issues and compatibility problems.
- Comfortable working in open-source development environments.
- Strong understanding of software testing and creating tests for correctness.
- Experience with WebGPU, GPU programming, or modern graphics APIs is valuable.
- Familiarity with graphics or shader technologies is an advantage.
- Low-level Android graphics experience is a plus.
- Experience with application security or fuzzing is an advantage.
- Strong written communication skills and ability to incorporate feedback.

Requirements
Rust programming
Strong professional experience with Rust and the ability to work effectively in low-level systems code.
Large codebase experience
Experience contributing to or maintaining a large systems, graphics, or browser codebase.
Debugging skills
Demonstrated ability to diagnose complex technical issues, including validation failures.
Open-source development
Comfortable working in open-source environments involving public issues and code reviews.
Software testing
Strong understanding of software testing and the ability to create tests that validate correctness.
Nice to Have
Experience with WebGPU, GPU programming, or modern graphics APIs such as Vulkan.
Familiarity with graphics or shader technologies such as WGSL, HLSL, or SPIR-V.
Low-level Android graphics experience is a plus.
Experience with application security, fuzzing, or the web security model is an advantage.
Prior contributions to wgpu are particularly valuable.
