About the Role
We're growing our engineering team and looking for a Backend Engineer to help design and build modern distributed systems. The first assignment will involve the development of a new customer-facing product, working alongside engineers who care deeply about software quality, automation, observability, and secure-by-design architectures.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop backend services in Rust
- Build distributed and asynchronous systems
- Contribute to architecture and technical decision-making
- Improve system reliability, observability, security, and automation
- Work primarily on long-term products rather than short-lived implementations
Qualifications
2+ years of professional experience developing backend applications.
Required Skills
- Familiarity with the challenges of distributed and asynchronous systems, including concepts such as eventual consistency, idempotency, and event-driven architectures
- Proficiency with Git workflows
- Familiarity with Linux and containerized environments
- Able to comfortably read and write technical documentation, design documents, and engineering discussions in English
- Strong engineering judgment to ensure correctness, security, performance, and maintainability
- Comfortable using AI-assisted development tools to increase effectiveness while maintaining critical thinking, code ownership, and engineering rigor
- Curiosity, pragmatism, and willingness to continuously learn
Preferred Skills
- Professional experience with Rust
- TypeScript knowledge
- Familiarity with gRPC and Protocol Buffers
- Familiarity with OpenTelemetry (OTel)
- Familiarity with Kubernetes and cloud-native runtime environments
Pay range and compensation package
C3 (€32k-35k): Candidates able to contribute independently with minimal onboarding.
C2 (€27k-30k): Candidates with strong potential who require additional growth on our stack.

This role is based in Rome. We support hybrid work while maintaining a strong preference for regular in-person collaboration. One remote day per week is guaranteed, with additional flexibility depending on project and team needs.

Requirements
Rust proficiency
Professional experience with Rust is essential.
