About the Role
As an Embedded RUST Engineer, you will design and maintain the embedded Rust architecture for STM32 autopilot systems, focusing on writing production-grade no_std firmware. This role requires close collaboration with flight control, navigation, and robotics engineers to ensure the performance and reliability of the aircraft's flight-control platform.
What You'll Do
- Design and maintain the embedded Rust architecture for our STM32 autopilot and write production-grade no_std firmware.
- Implement and maintain drivers for SPI, I2C, UART, ARINC 825, USB, Ethernet, DShot, ADC and other peripherals.
- Build reliable asynchronous and real-time components using interrupts, DMA, timers and carefully designed concurrency.
- Measure end-to-end latency from peripheral input through flight-critical tasks to actuator output, and eliminate jitter and bottlenecks.
- Profile and optimize hot paths for CPU cycles, memory footprint, data movement and deterministic deadline compliance.
- Use Rust's type system, ownership model and zero-cost abstractions to improve correctness without sacrificing performance.
- Debug firmware and electronics at register and signal level using probe-rs, hardware probes, schematics and reference manuals.
- Integrate flight-control and navigation algorithms and validate timing, fault handling and performance on hardware and in flight.
Who You Are
This is first and foremost a Rust and low-level performance engineering role. Deep, hands-on Rust experience and the ability to write clear, efficient and predictable systems code matter more than previous UAV experience.
- Excellent Rust skills, including ownership, lifetimes, traits, generics, error handling and zero-cost abstractions.
- Hands-on embedded or no_std Rust with embedded-hal, Embassy or RTIC, probe-rs, cargo-embed and cargo-flash.
- Experience developing firmware for STM32 or comparable ARM Cortex-M microcontrollers.
- Deep understanding of memory-mapped peripherals, interrupts, DMA, timers, scheduling and MCU concurrency.
- A strong performance mindset covering latency, jitter, worst-case execution time, CPU load and memory use.
- Experience with SPI, I2C, UART, CAN/CAN-FD and low-level debugging across firmware and electronics.
- Understanding of embedded reliability, fault tolerance and safety-critical principles, plus strong Git workflows.
Bonus Points
Experience with UAVs, drones, robotics or flight controllers such as PX4, ArduPilot or Betaflight is useful but not required. Familiarity with MAVLink or functional safety is also welcome.

Requirements
Rust programming
Excellent Rust skills, including ownership, lifetimes, traits, generics, error handling and zero-cost abstractions.
Embedded systems experience
Hands-on embedded or no_std Rust with embedded-hal, Embassy or RTIC, probe-rs, cargo-embed and cargo-flash.
Firmware development
Experience developing firmware for STM32 or comparable ARM Cortex-M microcontrollers.
Performance optimization
A strong performance mindset covering latency, jitter, worst-case execution time, CPU load and memory use.
Nice to Have
