About the Role

The Senior Software Development Engineer will design, build, and operate highly scalable distributed systems at Amazon scale, focusing on optimizing the movement of packages through AI-powered systems. This hands-on technical leadership role involves solving complex problems, driving architecture decisions, and mentoring engineers across the team.

Key Job Responsibilities

• Hands-on experience designing, building, testing, and operating production software in Rust.
• Experience designing and delivering scalable distributed systems and leading architecture across multiple components or services.
• Lead architecture and technical design for complex, high-impact projects.
• Solve challenging problems involving distributed systems, concurrency, performance, scalability, and reliability.
• Drive technical decisions across team and organizational boundaries.
• Own systems end-to-end, including production operations and operational excellence.
• Mentor engineers and raise the team’s technical bar.

Basic Qualifications

• 7+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
• 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience.
• 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience.
• Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team.
• Experience designing, building, operating, and managing large-scale distributed systems or web services.
• Professional production experience developing software in both Java and Rust.
• Experience migrating high-scale services from Java to Rust.
• Experience optimizing memory-intensive or latency-sensitive distributed systems, benchmarking, performance profiling, and large-scale production migrations.

Preferred Qualifications

• 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience.
• Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent.

Compensation

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
