The role involves working as a Senior Rust Engineer focused on enhancing developer tooling and version control systems. You will tackle complex engineering challenges related to open-source technologies and contribute to the future of AI-assisted software development.
What You'll Be Working On
- Extending and enhancing the version control ecosystem
- Contributing to gitoxide and Git compatibility initiatives
- Building cloud-native repository backends designed for enterprise-scale development
- Developing high-performance storage, caching, and virtual filesystem solutions
- Improving support for large repositories and distributed workflows
- Designing extensibility frameworks, APIs, and plugin architectures
- Enhancing developer tooling for AI-assisted and automated software engineering workflows
- Collaborating directly with open-source maintainers and upstream communities
What We're Looking For
Essential
- Strong commercial experience with Rust
- Deep understanding of Git and modern version control concepts
- Experience building developer tools, infrastructure platforms, SDKs, CLIs, or systems software
- Strong knowledge of software architecture and distributed systems
- Experience contributing to open-source projects
- Track record of delivering high-quality production software
Highly Desirable
- Experience with Git internals, source control systems, or repository storage technologies
- Contributions to projects such as Git, gitoxide, JGit, Mercurial, or similar tooling
- Knowledge of packfiles, commit graphs, refs, reftables, partial clone, or repository performance optimisation
- Experience with storage engines, filesystems, caching layers, or large-scale infrastructure
- Familiarity with gRPC, distributed services, authentication systems, and cloud platforms
- Open-source maintainer experience or a strong public GitHub profile
