About the Role
About the Role
If you're a Rust Engineer who enjoys getting under the hood of complex systems and figuring out how things actually work, this could be an interesting one.
iO Associates are working with a technology business on a new contract requirement for an experienced Rust Engineer. This isn't a standard backend build.
You'll be working with a complex existing system that interacts directly with specialist physical hardware. A key part of the challenge will be reverse engineering the existing system, understanding how the different components interact and helping engineer what comes next.
It's the sort of project that needs someone who enjoys investigating difficult problems rather than simply picking up predefined tickets.
What You'll Do
- Working hands-on with a complex Rust-based system
- Reverse engineering and understanding existing system behaviour
- Investigating how the software interacts with specialist physical hardware
- Getting under the hood of an unfamiliar system and understanding how the different components work together
- Diagnosing and solving complex engineering problems
- Developing and improving the existing solution
- Working directly with the physical equipment when required
- Collaborating with the wider engineering team throughout the project
Who You Are
- Strong commercial Rust experience
- Experience working with complex production software systems
- Comfortable reverse engineering existing systems
- Strong investigative and problem-solving skills
- Comfortable getting into an unfamiliar codebase and figuring out how it works
- Happy working with software that interacts with physical hardware
- Able to travel into Greater Manchester when access to the equipment is required
The Contract
- Outside IR35
- 5 days per week
- Hybrid, Greater Manchester
- Typically 1-2 days onsite when required, although this won't necessarily be every week
Conclusion
This is a particularly interesting opportunity for someone who likes the more challenging side of software engineering and wants a Rust project with a genuine real-world element to it.
