As a Software Development Engineer at Amazon Robotics, you will develop advanced robotics systems that integrate AI and sophisticated control systems. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to design, implement, and test software for complex mechatronic systems, ensuring safety and performance in dynamic environments.
What You'll Do
- Develop embedded software for driving sophisticated mechatronic systems.
- Work with multiple components including motor control, networking, security, sensing, and safety on modern real-time actuation and system hardware.
- Contribute to the architecture of these complex systems and work effectively with team members to implement solutions.
- Develop solutions that balance performance and maintainability.
- Collaborate with our hardware teams and vendors to enable new computing hardware and functionality.
A Day in the Life
As a Software Engineer, you will work with cross-functional teams to develop, test, and debug sophisticated modern robotic systems. The development process will involve contributing to the design process, analyzing potential pitfalls of proposed approaches, and implementing new products and features. Testing efforts will involve writing automated tests to validate newly created features or conducting live testing to debug and root cause issues.
Basic Qualifications
- 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
- 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience.
- 3+ years of embedded firmware development experience.
- Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
- 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience.
- Master's degree in computer science or equivalent.
- Knowledge of the tools of the trade, including a variety of modern programming languages (Rust, Java, C/C++), and a solid understanding of the Linux operating system.
- Experience in embedded development in C/C++, or experience with Machine Learning and Large Language Model fundamentals, including architecture, training/inference lifecycles, and optimization of model execution.
Compensation
The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.

Requirements
Embedded software development
You should have 3+ years of experience in embedded firmware development.
Software architecture
Experience in design or architecture of new and existing systems is required.
Programming languages
Knowledge of modern programming languages including Rust, Java, and C/C++ is essential.
Cross-functional collaboration
Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams is necessary.
Nice to Have
Experience in the complete software development life cycle is preferred.
Familiarity with Machine Learning and Large Language Model fundamentals is a plus.
