The Senior Software Engineer will work on designing and optimizing complex engineering systems, focusing on backend development with modern programming languages like Python and Rust. This role involves collaborating with engineers and scientists to influence the design of the platform layer while ensuring high code quality.
What You'll Do
- Design systems and APIs that coordinate work, manage state, and handle failure.
- Utilize strong software engineering skills in modern languages, particularly Python and Rust.
- Engage in scientific computing with a focus on code quality.
Who You Are
- Strong academic background in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or Scientific Software.
- Experience with Cloud computing or HPC job management (e.g., Slurm).
- Familiarity with identity and authorization flows such as OIDC/OAuth2.
- Experience deploying containerized services on Linux.
- Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code tools like Ansible.
- Experience with data storage and pipelines, including large simulation results.
Bonus Points
- Experience with modern Python tooling and packaging.
- Familiarity with API, REST, and WebSockets technologies such as FastAPI.

Requirements
Strong academic background
A degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or related fields.
Software engineering skills
Proficiency in modern programming languages, especially Python and Rust.
System design experience
Experience designing systems and APIs that manage state and handle failures.
Cloud computing knowledge
Familiarity with Cloud computing or HPC job management tools like Slurm.
Nice to Have
Experience deploying containerized services on Linux.
Knowledge of tools like Ansible for infrastructure management.
