Job: Rust / Rustification Engineer
Location: Boston, MA (Onsite)
Job Description
The hardest to source. This person rewrites memory-heavy Java services in Rust to eliminate JVM overhead (garbage collector, heap, JIT). Needs deep production Rust — ownership/borrowing, async/Tokio — plus enough Java understanding to prove the rewrite behaves identically, then drive a safe cutover.
Target stack: Smithy Rust Server SDK, ECS Fargate on ARM64/Graviton, plus internal tools (CargoBrazil, CDK — trainable). Notably, they want someone comfortable using AI coding agents as the primary workflow for the rewrite.
Requirements
Deep Rust Knowledge
The candidate must have extensive experience with Rust, including ownership and borrowing.
Async Programming
Experience with async programming in Rust, particularly using Tokio.
Java Understanding
A solid understanding of Java is necessary to ensure the rewritten services function identically.
Nice to Have
Familiarity with using AI coding agents in the development workflow is a plus.
Experience with ECS Fargate and ARM64/Graviton is beneficial.
