About the Role
Role Overview
We are seeking a seasoned Senior Back-End Developer to design and build core backend services powering our high-performance trade capture infrastructure. In this role, you will focus on architecting low-latency systems capable of processing real-time trade capture workflows, complex analytics pipelines, and large-scale financial market data feeds.
While Rust is a core pillar of our modern technology stack alongside Python, we recognize that finding candidates with extensive production Rust experience can be challenging. We warmly welcome strong backend/systems engineers with deep expertise in concurrent, performant languages (e.g., C++, Go, Python) who demonstrate exceptional learning agility and are eager to master Rust on the job.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect and build high-performance, low-latency backend services for trade capture execution, real-time analytics, and financial market data processing and distribution.
- Design, build, and maintain scalable microservices, low-latency protocols, and high-throughput APIs.
- Engineer robust pipelines for real-time data ingestion, transformation, and distribution across large-scale, high-concurrency financial datasets.
- Continually profile and optimize distributed cloud-native services for minimal latency, maximum throughput, fault tolerance, and high availability.
- Write comprehensive unit, integration, and stress tests to ensure strict code quality, zero-data-loss execution, and long-term system robustness.
- Partner with cloud, DevOps, and frontend engineering teams to deliver seamless integration, backed by structured logging, tracing, and observability tooling.
- Maintain clear, thorough technical documentation, system specs, and runbooks to facilitate knowledge sharing and streamline system debugging.
Required Skills & Experience
- Strong proficiency in Python combined with proven backend experience in compiled/systems languages. Hands-on experience with Rust is highly valued; however, candidates with strong backgrounds in lower-level or highly concurrent systems (e.g., C++, Go) and a proven track record of rapidly self-learning Rust are strongly encouraged to apply.
- Proven experience designing, building, and scaling high-performance backend systems or distributed cloud architectures.
- Deep understanding of REST, gRPC, and WebSockets for real-time, low-overhead communication.
- Hands-on experience architecting or working with event-driven architectures and streaming platforms (e.g., Apache Kafka, NATS, Redpanda).
- Strong command of Linux environments, operating system internals, performance profiling/tuning, containerization (Docker), and cloud environments (Kubernetes experience preferred).
- Strong commitment to system documentation, clean code practices, structured application logging, and telemetry implementation.
Preferred Qualifications
- 2+ years of production experience writing idiomatic Rust (focusing on memory management without GC, async runtime models, tokio, and low-latency system design) is a major plus.
- Domain experience in capital markets technology, trade processing, order management systems (OMS/EMS), or market data delivery platforms.
- Demonstrated expertise in multi-threading, lock-free data structures, memory management optimization, and microsecond-level latency tuning.
- Familiarity with real-time data pipelines and modern database architectures (PostgreSQL, time-series databases like TimescaleDB/InfluxDB, or distributed NoSQL stores).
