About the Role
About Bytebeam
Bytebeam builds the hardware and software stacks that power the next generation of smart connected vehicles. From device telemetry and remote diagnostics to OTA updates, alerts, and fleet-scale device management, Bytebeam helps teams ship connected products faster and operate them reliably in the field.
Role Overview
We are hiring a Systems Engineer (SDE 3) - Rust to work on Bytebeam’s stream processing, data pipeline, and analytics infrastructure. You will work closely with the data team to design and improve systems that ingest, process, and serve device telemetry at scale.
This role is for someone with strong systems engineering fundamentals in Rust, a good understanding of how software behaves close to the OS, and a serious interest in modern stream processing and incremental compute.
What You'll Do
- Build and improve Rust-based systems for stream processing, data pipelines, and analytics.
- Design reliable components that handle high-volume telemetry, backpressure, failures, retries, and recovery.
- Work on incremental compute concepts such as stateful processing, materialized views, change propagation, and efficient recomputation.
- Profile and tune CPU, memory, I/O, latency, and throughput using measurement rather than guesswork.
- Debug production issues across networking, storage, async runtimes, scheduling, and resource usage.
- Study and evaluate ideas from modern Rust stream processing systems such as RisingWave, DBSP/Feldera, and Arroyo, and apply relevant lessons or integrate relevant tooling to Bytebeam’s stream processing sub-system.
- Work closely with customers and internal teams to make sure we build the right systems and ship practical improvements.
Who We're Looking For
- 5+ years of professional systems-level engineering experience.
- Strong production Rust skills, including ownership, lifetimes, traits, concurrency, and async primitives.
- Comfort working close to the OS: syscalls, memory, scheduling, networking, storage, and failure modes.
- Strong understanding of stream processing concepts, especially stateful processing, incremental computation, consistency, ordering, windows, and fault tolerance.
- Experience building or operating production systems with high availability and scalability requirements.
- Ability to reason from first principles, measure system behavior, and make clear engineering trade-offs.
- Clear communication and the ability to explain technical decisions, constraints, and trade-offs.
Useful Experience
- Building data pipelines, analytics engines, query systems, or stream processing infrastructure.
- Working with async Rust in production.
- Debugging performance or correctness issues in distributed or high-throughput systems.
- Understanding architectures used by systems such as RisingWave, DBSP/Feldera, Arroyo, or similar stream processing engines.
- Working with telemetry, time-series data, device data, or fleet-scale operational systems.
