About the Role
About The Opportunity
Join a world-leading global investment bank where technology sits at the heart of the business. Every day, the engineering organisation builds and supports mission-critical platforms that power global financial markets, processing enormous volumes of market data and enabling electronic trading across multiple asset classes.
You'll join a specialist engineering team responsible for designing the high-performance frameworks, tooling and infrastructure that underpin low-latency trading systems used across the organisation. This is an opportunity to work on software where microseconds matter, solving some of the most technically demanding challenges in modern distributed systems engineering.
The Role
We're looking for an experienced Senior Low Latency Rust Engineer to join a specialist High Performance Architecture team focused on building reusable frameworks and platform capabilities that enable the next generation of electronic trading applications.
The team operates as an internal centre of engineering excellence, partnering with development teams across multiple trading businesses to modernise applications, improve performance and build highly scalable event-driven platforms.
This is a genuinely hands-on engineering role, with approximately 90% of your time spent writing production code.
What You'll Be Working On
You'll help design and develop the core frameworks and utilities that support electronic trading platforms, including:
- Low latency event-sourcing frameworks
- Market data replay platforms
- Trading simulation and back-testing utilities
- High-performance microservices
- Algorithmic trading infrastructure
- Market data processing systems
- Performance profiling and optimisation
- Modernisation of mission-critical trading applications
You'll also work closely with engineering teams across the business, helping modernise existing trading platforms while mentoring engineers on low-latency engineering techniques and software design best practices.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop ultra-low latency applications using Rust and Java
- Build high-performance event-driven microservices
- Engineer reusable frameworks supporting electronic trading and algorithmic execution
- Develop market data replay and simulation tooling
- Optimise applications operating within 10–100 microsecond latency targets
- Analyse complex performance bottlenecks across the JVM, Linux and networking stack
- Improve scalability, throughput and determinism of distributed trading systems
- Collaborate with engineering teams modernising trading applications
- Mentor developers on low-latency design and performance engineering
- Contribute to architecture, design discussions and engineering standards
