About the Role
As a Senior Software Engineer II at Microchip Technology Inc., you will be part of a team developing software tools for USB Hubs and PCIe/USB Ethernet controllers. Your role will involve designing and developing backend services and APIs, focusing on performance and reliability, while collaborating with various engineering teams.
What You'll Do
- Design and develop backend services and APIs with a focus on performance and reliability.
- Build and maintain service components in Rust or C++.
- Write clean, testable code and participate in code reviews.
- Integrate services with databases, message queues, and external systems as needed.
- Improve observability (logging, metrics, tracing) and troubleshooting production issues.
- Work with CI/CD pipelines and modern build tooling to streamline delivery.
- Collaborate with product and other engineering teams to deliver features end-to-end.
Who You Are
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer/Electronics/Electrical Engineering with minimum of 7 - 10 years of software tools development experience.
- Strong experience in Rust and modern C++.
- Solid understanding of backend fundamentals (concurrency, networking, performance, security basics).
- Experience with modern build systems and tooling (e.g., Cargo, CMake, Bazel, Meson).
- Familiarity with Linux development environments and automated testing.
- Knowledge of version control (Git) and collaborative development workflows.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Willingness to work in a dynamic environment with multiple projects and deadlines.
- Team player but able to work independently - a self-starter, adaptable to rapidly changing market requirements.
Bonus Points
- gRPC and Protocol Buffers experience.
- Familiarity with Docker/containers and deployment workflows and software upgrade process are preferred.

Requirements
Degree in Engineering
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer/Electronics/Electrical Engineering with minimum of 7 - 10 years of software tools development experience.
Rust and C++ Experience
Strong experience in Rust and modern C++.
Backend Fundamentals
Solid understanding of backend fundamentals including concurrency, networking, performance, and security basics.
Build Systems Knowledge
Experience with modern build systems and tooling such as Cargo, CMake, Bazel, or Meson.
Linux Development
Familiarity with Linux development environments and automated testing.
Nice to Have
Experience with gRPC and Protocol Buffers is a plus.
Familiarity with Docker/containers and deployment workflows is preferred.
