About The Role

Reddit is seeking a highly skilled Staff Backend Engineer to join our Safety and Moderation organization. This team develops the tools that empower moderators to maintain a safe, healthy, and scalable community environment. As a key member of the engineering team, you will play a critical role in designing, developing, and implementing high-impact features and improvements that support Reddit’s moderation infrastructure. This role offers the opportunity to work remotely within the United States, with the flexibility to collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including product, design, and other engineering disciplines. You will be responsible for driving technical and product strategy, overseeing architecture, and ensuring the successful delivery of features that enhance the moderation experience for our community leaders. This position is ideal for a seasoned engineer who thrives in a fast-paced, innovative environment and is passionate about building scalable, reliable systems.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software development experience in one or more general-purpose programming languages such as Go, Python, Rust, or Ruby
• Experience with designing and implementing APIs using GraphQL, REST, HTTP, Thrift, or gRPC
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects effectively
• Entrepreneurial mindset with a bias for action, innovation, and adaptability in dynamic environments
• Proven experience partnering effectively with cross-functional teams in a remote setting
• Excellent communication skills, capable of discussing complex technical topics with both technical and non-technical audiences

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with product, design, and engineering teams to execute on strategic initiatives and develop innovative features that enhance the moderation experience
• Participate in the full development lifecycle, including technical design, coding, testing, experimentation, analysis, and deployment
• Review code and design documentation, provide constructive feedback, and ensure adherence to best practices
• Lead and mentor a team of motivated engineers, setting standards to improve developer workflows and quality
• Establish and promote engineering best practices, code quality, and scalable architecture solutions
• Continuously learn new technologies and methodologies to improve technical and non-technical skills
• Drive technical strategy and operational excellence for one of the largest online communities globally
