Google's software engineers develop the next-generation technologies that change how billions of users connect, explore, and interact with information and one another. Our products need to handle information at massive scale, and extend well beyond web search. We're looking for engineers who bring fresh ideas from all areas, including information retrieval, distributed computing, large-scale system design, networking and data storage, security, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, UI design and mobile; the list goes on and is growing every day. As a software engineer, you will work on a specific project critical to Google’s needs with opportunities to switch teams and projects as you and our fast-paced business grow and evolve. We need our engineers to be versatile, display leadership qualities and be enthusiastic to take on new problems across the full-stack as we continue to push technology forward.
Responsibilities
- Help build a first-party Google Cloud product, the Google Cloud Universal Ledger (GCUL), implementing critical functionalities to address key customer concerns (eg, privacy, confidentiality, reliability and durability).
- Develop innovative solutions for maintaining data privacy on the ledger, including techniques like homomorphic cryptography and zero-knowledge proofs (ZKPs).
- Own and productionise the code base implementing the critical technical capabilities of the ledger, such as consensus, transaction dissemination, certification, finalisation, recoverability and data publication.
- Collaborate as a strong team player and pitch in with the team’s day-to-day tasks like our on-call rotation.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 2 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages, or 1 year of experience with an advanced degree.
- Experience programming in C++, Python or Rust.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical fields.
- Experience with low-latency or high-performance native code systems.
- Familiarity with cryptographic techniques.
- Knowledge of compiler architecture, ASTs, lexer design, static analysis etc.
- Deep data science and applied statistics background.

Requirements
Software Development Experience
2 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages.
Programming Languages
Experience programming in C++, Python or Rust.
Bachelor’s Degree
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience is required.
Nice to Have
Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical fields is preferred.
Experience with low-latency or high-performance native code systems is a plus.
Familiarity with cryptographic techniques is beneficial.
