About the Role
The Software Engineer role at Vitus Commodities involves building and operating software systems that support trading infrastructure, primarily using Rust and Go. The position offers the chance to modernize core platforms in a collaborative environment at the intersection of technology and energy markets.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and operate backend services, primarily in Rust and Go, with Python used for data-adjacent workloads and integration work.
- Contribute to the full rewrite of our existing platform, while providing maintenance of the legacy Python applications that remain in production during the transition.
- Contribute to frontend development for internal tools where the scope of a backend initiative requires it.
- Participate in the on-call rotation for owned services.
Required Qualifications
- A minimum of four years of professional backend engineering experience, including meaningful production experience in at least one systems-level language (Rust, Go, or C++).
- Working proficiency in Python, including the ability to operate effectively within older codebases.
- Proven experience operating production services, including Linux fundamentals, containerization, networking basics, observability, and production debugging.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines (Teamcity, Jenkins, Github Actions).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Demonstrated knowledge of designing and maintaining relational databases (Postgresql, Mysql).
- Ability to work autonomously, take ownership, and proactively address challenges.
- Eager to learn and grow continuously.
- Clear written and verbal communication.
- Proficiency in English.

- Experience with modern frontend frameworks and best practices.
- Experience in financial services, trading, or other domain-intensive backend environments.
- Experience participating in greenfield rewrites of established systems.
