About the Role
About O-ID
O-ID is a robotics startup in Tokyo. We build modular, field-serviceable dual-arm robots for factory automation, and we are working with several major Japanese Tier-1 automotive manufacturers toward first pilot deployments.
What You'll Do
The robot is delivered by a team of about five engineers. These are foundational roles.
- You own a domain outright, everyone designs, builds, tests, and deploys, and as the company scales you build and lead the team for your area.
- This role owns the robot's software:
- The real-time runtime, written in Rust, talking to actuator drives over EtherCAT
- Navigation and docking on factory floors
- The interfaces our AI & manipulation engineer and teleoperation partner build on. Control loops, data transport, APIs
- Updates, telemetry, and logging solid enough to run unattended at a customer site
- Deployment tooling and on-site bring-up: when a robot goes into a customer factory, you are there, and what you learn goes back into the stack
Who You Are
- You have shipped both hard real-time software and autonomy or navigation software
- You have supported robots or similar systems in the field, and your software shows it
- Strong Rust, or strong modern C++ and willingness to switch
- Fieldbus experience, ideally EtherCAT
- A rapid-prototyping temperament with production judgment: quick to a working system, honest about what needs to be rebuilt before it scales
