The Software Engineer role at Barayamal involves developing high-quality software and web applications while collaborating with volunteers to support First Nations entrepreneurs. This remote position requires a commitment to social impact and the ability to work asynchronously on various technical tasks.
What You May Work On

- Practical technical work that can be completed asynchronously and remotely.
- Knowledge sharing with other volunteers where appropriate.
Preferred Experience
- Relevant software, technology or equivalent project experience preferred.
- 2+ years Java, backend, web development or equivalent project experience is preferred, not essential.
- Experience with Git, documentation, testing or collaborative tools is helpful.
- Clear communication, reliability and respect for First Nations-led work.
- Interest in social impact, Indigenous entrepreneurship or non-profit technology.
Responsibilities
- Develop quality software and web applications.
- Analyze and maintain existing software applications.
- Design highly scalable, testable code.
- Discover and fix programming bugs.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science or related field.
- Development experience with programming languages.
- SQL database or relational database skills.
