About the Role
The Senior Software Engineer in Application Security at Discord will focus on building security features that protect user accounts and enhance authentication and session security. This role involves hands-on product engineering and collaboration with product teams to develop user-facing security tools and address emerging threats.
What You'll Do

Who You Are
- Hands-on AppSec experience (not just compliance-flavored security).
- Comfort reading and writing code across languages.
- Experience shipping production software.
- Sound judgment on prioritizing real risk over checklist security.
- Experience with authentication, passkeys, MFA, or session management is especially relevant.
Stack
Python primarily, some TypeScript/React, some Rust, occasional JavaScript. Runs on GCP.
Location
Remote from the US West Coast. If you are in the Bay Area, our SF office is an option. Relocation to the Bay Area is not required.

Hands-on AppSec experience
Experience in application security beyond compliance-focused roles.
Coding proficiency
Comfortable reading and writing code across multiple programming languages.
Production software experience
Demonstrated experience in shipping production software.
Risk prioritization
Ability to prioritize real risks over checklist security.
Authentication knowledge
Experience with authentication methods, passkeys, MFA, or session management.
Nice to Have
Familiarity with TypeScript and React is a plus.
Occasional JavaScript experience is beneficial.
